Dimensional Weights and Their Effect

with No Comments

Dimensional Weights, otherwise known as Dim Weights, are the method of measuring the complete weight of a package. Dim Weight is calculated by multiplying the length, width, and height together then dividing it by the dim weight value.  (LxWxH)/(D). The dim weight value will be changed from 166 to 139, thus changing the calculated dim weight to a much more dense package. This change is mainly to optimize the weight limit in their trucks. The dim weight value change will ultimately increase shipping costs for supply chains.
The inevitability of increased shipping rates were always a concern, but in 2017 for some shipping facilities, it is becoming a reality.
